A perfect Autumn day!

Blue sky, golden light, warm air, leaves just turning, walnuts to gather & at last, our peaches are ripe...

Picking Plums

We're lucky enough to have an orchard of plum trees and this year, we've had a bumper crop! We made plum jam and a plum cheese (you have to wait at least 3 months to eat this - so should be just right for Christmas!). We've also made a plum liqueur using a recipe from Elizabeth David - not exactly Armagnac but pretty delicious all the same!

Saint Emilion Sunday

Think of St Emilion.... and wonderful wines.  This year's harvest starts on September 13th and local growers will open their doors and cellars to celebrate!

Xavier Maffre

Xavier Maffre is a wonderfully talented ceramiste / potter working in a picturesque atelier in Aubeterre-sur-Dronne in the Charente. Our latest buy is a beautiful matte black urn which now has pride of place in our salon. You can see his work at http://www.xaviermaffre.com/ and if you visit Aubeterre, make sure you visit the atelier.

Morning Glory

We planted this Morning Glory earlier this summer - beautiful blue trumpets every morning!

A lovely blue don't you think!

Painted roadside adverts are part of French street life - but they're fading fast. Some were used to advertise very well known brands - cognacs and aperitifs for example. This one looks much more like a one-off, promoting the local newspaper - spotted on a housewall in St Martial de Viveyrol. And isn't it a lovely blue!

Sunflowers = Summer!

Sunflowers - just so cheerful... they never fail to lift the spirits... Enjoy them for for just a few weeks in high summer!

Breakfast!

Saturday morning breakfast - croissants and a fresh baguette from our local boulangerie in Cherval - the best boulangerie we know!

Small luxuries

Just occasionally you come across lovely shopping possibilities... what could be better than 'Objets d'art, bijoux and vins anciens'... We spotted this in Aubeterre, a lovely village about 15 miles from Gresignac.
